“Nature is not a place to visit. It is home.” ~ Gary Snyder

We took this literally and tried out our first 100% natural experience abroad. My husband wanted to take a permaculture (sustainable agriculture) class, and even though staying at the beach sounded like a really good idea, I chose to go with him and volunteer during the time of his class. We decided to go to Sahainan. The frm is located in northern Thailand, in a tiny town called Thung Chang. The first couple of days were ROUGH. VERY ROUGH. However, once your body adjusts to the changes in your environment, everything starts coming together.
This wasn't a place where I could wear my bikinis and sun-bathe, or maybe I could have done that, but there was so much going on around me that it was hard to stay away from it. This was a place that opened my eyes to real sustainability, connecting with nature and with the people that were there. We had an amazing experience and everyday was full of learning and applying what we had learned.
It was a beautiful farm, full of love and care by the people living there. They opened their doors to us, so we could come in and share their lifestyle for a few days, learn about their ways and realize we can minimize damages to our environment. We made amazing friends and shared many special moments together. It was definitely one of the highlights of our trips. Here are a few shots of the farm:
This experience taught me to be open to new ideas, to step out of my comfort zone and embrace everything that surrounds me. Caring for our environment is definitely at the top of our priorities, if not, our beautiful beaches will be ruined too! One of the best parts of it was making new friends and sharing our passions with each other. There is always something to learn from people around us. It was a great time.
Remember that regardless of what you do, happiness looks gorgeous on you ;)
